I think three necklaces is the sweet spot. It is not too many where it looks messy, but it’s just enough to give you that nice layered look.

Tip #2: When layering necklaces make sure that all the necklaces you pick out are different lengths. Otherwise, you are no longer going to achieve the layered look you are going for. You want your necklaces to be differing in at least 1 inch. If they are all the same length and have extenders, try putting each necklace on a different spot on the extender in order to get different lengths.

Tip #3: The style of the necklaces that you are putting together is key in creating a cohesive layered look. Different style chain necklaces look really nice together. For example, layering a paperclip necklace with a cuban chain and figaro chain necklace will look amazing. The shortest necklace in a layer looks best with a necklace that has an evenly distributed design (like a chain or multi-dangle necklace). The middle layer looks really good with a bar necklace. The bottom layer is where you can put your pendant style necklaces.
