Jewelry you can actually wear to the gym (and look good doing it)

You've seen it, the woman at the gym who somehow looks effortlessly put-together, mid-workout, with a delicate gold necklace catching the light between sets. You've wondered: is that actually okay? Is she going to ruin it?

The answer, for the right pieces, is yes, it's completely fine. And we'd argue it's more than fine. Wearing jewelry you love to the gym is part of showing up fully as yourself, even at 6am in a sports bra.

Here's what actually works, and what to leave at home.

The gym-safe rule of thumb

The key is keeping it simple, secure, and close to the body. Anything that swings, snags, or catches on equipment is a no. Anything small, flat, and secure? You're good.

What works at the gym

Stud earrings

Your safest and most versatile option. A clean gold or silver stud sits flat against the ear, stays put through any movement, and adds just enough polish to make your gym look feel intentional. Our Baguette Hoop Studs and classic crystal studs are perfect for this.

Small hoops

A small, close-fitting hoop, think under 20mm is gym-safe as long as it sits tight to the earlobe. Avoid anything that hangs or swings. The sweet spot is a hoop that moves with you, not against you.

Thin chain necklaces

A dainty chain necklace worn short (14" to 16") lays flat against the chest and stays out of your way during most exercises. Our Peral Necklace is a great everyday option, minimal, clean, and secure enough for a spin class or strength session.

Minimal cuffs and bangles

A fitted cuff or thin bangle on the wrist works well for lower-intensity workouts, yoga, pilates, walking. For heavier lifting, it's better to go bare-wristed so you have a clean grip and nothing interferes with wrist positioning.

What to leave at home

Long pendant necklaces, they swing during movement and can get caught on equipment. Large or dangling earrings, same issue, plus they can snag on clothing or headphones. Rings if you're lifting heavy, protect both your ring and your grip by taking them off before you hit the weights.

The gym-to-coffee transition

One of our favourite things about keeping your jewelry on at the gym is that it makes the post-workout coffee run feel so much more effortless. You've already got your stack on, throw on a fresh t-shirt and you're ready. No fussing with jewelry in the car park.

This is exactly the kind of wearability Alison+Aubrey pieces are designed for. Not just for the special occasion, but for the full, real day.
